SESSION TWO/SESJA DRUGA


1. Stavros Skrepetos: From the branches of the olive tree to the roads of the world. Transferring the olive tree culture with motorcycles

Bio: The Faculty of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies of the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki. Stavros Skrepetos is a student of the Master Program ‘Studies in the Languages and Culture of the Countries of South Eastern Europe’ at the Faculty of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies of the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki. He has participated in the Konitsa Summer School of the Border Crossings Network and some Student Conferences in Istanbul, Bucharest and this year in Belgrade and Zadar. In this year he started to study Slovenian and Turkish language in an initial stadium.




2. Peter F. N. Hörz, Marcus Richter: Between Arrival and Departure – Some Ethnographic Notes on Time and Space in Motels


Bios: University of Applied Sciences, Esslingen and Philipps Universität Marburg. Peter F. N. Hörz teaches Anthropology and Sociology at Hochschule Esslingen. He studied Empirische Kulturwissenschaft/Volkskunde and Erziehungswissenschaft in Tübingen and Vienna. There he got his PhD in 2001. Hörz is author/co-author of numerous publications. Some of them refer to the culture of transport and mobility. Marcus Richter is a research assistant at the Department for European Ethnology at Philipps Universität Marburg. He studied at the Bamberg University and at Tomsk Polytechnic University. Recently he started his dissertation project on appropriation of nature in biodynamic agriculture.




3. Paweł Wita: Hitchhiking in modern Europe. History, impacts and possible uses


Bio: Social Anthropolgy, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Pawel Wita – born in 1989, graduated from Adam Mickiewicz University, master student of Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität. Interested in urban anthropology, political sciences and politics in general. He hitch-hikes a lot.

1.Jędrzej Burszta: Challenging the Hegemony of Car Culture. The Road as Cultural Landscape in the United States

Bio: University of Social Sciences and Humanities (SWPS) in Warsaw. Jędrzej Burszta has a master in cultural studies (2011, Institute of Polish Culture) and American studies (2013, American Studies Center) from the University of Warsaw. Now he is a PhD student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (SWPS) in Warsaw. His fields of interest include: American studies, anthropology of mobility, theory of cultural studies, ethnography, and science fiction studies.



2. Łukasz Kaczmarek: Ethnography of Crossborder Suburbanisation and Categories that Failed. Border, Motorway and Social Mobility in Szczecin Outskirts

Bio: Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Łukasz Kaczmarek is an anthropologist interested in social mobility, imaginaries and power relations. He has conducted research on plural society and identity constructing in Fiji (2000-2005, Kaczmarek 2008), and research dedicated to post-colonial society power relations and social mobility in Jamaica (2009-2012) as well as with Paweł Ładykowski on a resurgence of Polish-German borderland (2009-2013).

2. Dorota Angutek: The New Symbolism and the Perception of a Motorway Scenery

Bio: Department of Sociology at University of Zielona Góra Dr Dorota Angutek is a cultural anthropologist and cultural scientist. From 1989 to 2000 she has been working at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań at Department of Cultural Studies, then she moved to Zielona Góra, where she started working at the Department of Sociology at University of Zielona Góra. Now, she cultural and applied anthropology. She has written two books: Magiczne źródło filozofii greckiej (2003) and Kulturowe wymiary krajobazu (2013) and few articles from the field of historical anthropology as well.




3. Rafał Szymanowski: Mobility as a public good

Bio: Faculty of Political Science and Journalism, Adam Mickiewicz University PhD candidate at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. I graduated from International Relations at AMU, I also studied European law and economics as an Erasmus exchange student in Berlin. 



4. Wojciech Szymalski: Lewis-Mogridge position - theoretical background and evidence from Warsaw

Bio: Institute for Sustainable Development in Warsaw. Ph.D. Wojciech Szymalski is an expert in regional planning and public participation (Ph.D thesis) as well as spatial planning and sustainable transport (Master thesis). He graduated Warsaw University. Since 2004, he has been working in Zielone Mazowsze (Green Mazovia) Association in Warsaw in the field of environmental transport policy. In 2008, he has done his DBU internship at the Unabhängiges Institut für Umweltfragen e.V in Berlin (Germany), focusing on regional planning and environmental law. From 2009, he has been working for the Institute for Sustainable Development in Warsaw. Since 2010 he leads a LIFE+ project “Good climate for counties”. 



5. Przemysław Barszczewski: Albania-Kosovo Highway Project as a chance for economic and social development

Bio: Land Planning Studies in University of Gdańsk. Przemysław Barszczewski is a student of the 5th year of Plannig Studies at the University of Gdańsk. His main interest are: urbanism, public spaces and architecture.
